Billy Poindexter, FounderAfter re-locating to Indianapolis from Tompkinsville Kentucky, Billy got his start in the excavating business at age 22 as a Heavy Equipment Operator and was then promoted to Field Supervisor. After a decade gaining experience in the field, Billy decided to start his own excavating company.
Poindexter Excavating started with just a handful of employees and equipment but a solid reputation for honesty and integrity. Billy’s hard work and reputation got the company through the early years and is still the trademark for Poindexter projects today.

Jim began his accounting career at Blue & Co. where he gained experience in a variety of industries. He spent the next 22 years as Treasurer at Ulrich Chemical, Inc. before bringing his depth of finance experience to Poindexter.

Frances joined Poindexter in 1995 as Office Manager and took on the additional responsibilities of Corporate Secretary just two years later. Using her 22 years experience as administrative assistant and accounting supervisor, Frances is also responsible for Payroll, Human Resources and Accounts Payable.

Like many Poindexter employees, Norm got his start out in the field. He has held positions on a survey crew, as Party Chief and as head of a surveying department. His experience covers a wide range of civil design, including commercial, residential, industrial/warehousing and municipal projects. Since coming to Poindexter, Norm has helped numerous clients with his skills in schematic and conceptual estimates, value engineering, and civil design analysis.

Jeff comes from a long line of construction workers. He started his construction career with a general contractor as a Laborer and was quickly promoted to Labor Foreman where he managed building and trades projects. Jeff got his start at Poindexter as a Laborer but soon emerged as one of our top Foreman running several hospital and school projects. Currently, Jeff actively manages several of his own projects while overseeing the success of all projects within the company.

Jerry has been with Poindexter for 30 years and has over 35 years of construction experience. He has been in every field position from laborer to operator and is now currently General Superintendent.
Richard Meyer, Utility Superintendentrmeyer@poindexterexcavating.com
Richard has more than 38 years of construction experience – 25 of which have been here at Poindexter. He is a veteran of all utility installation projects and oversees all water and sewer testing operations. You’ll often find Richard on job sites troubleshooting with sewer and water crews or coordinating all water main materials. Richard also specializes in intricate utility relocation and shut-down projects.

Tom's first job out of high school was as a Mechanic. He started working with Poindexter as a Field Serviceman and worked his way up to Shop Manager. Whether he was under a truck, on the field or in the shop Tom has worked on all aspects of heavy machinery and is a key component of our service and maintenance capabilities.

Jim came to Poindexter with 22 years of active service in the United States Marine Corps. His experience in the Marines included chemical/biological defense systems and his background has given him excellent training as our key safety enforcer. Jim has DOT Drug and Alcohol Supervisor Certifications, excavation and trenching safety training, and over 40 hours of OSHA training.
